Nancy Clark
Upper School Head
Nancy holds a B.A. in English and History, as well as her M.A. in American History, from the University of Arizona. She began her career in education as a Peace Corps volunteer, starting a school in a Guatemalan village. Later she became a seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher at Katherine Delmar Burke School, where she taught for nearly 20 years. (Several SFDS parents are among her former students.) She then took a position as history teacher at Lick-Wilmerding, where she also served as History Department Chair, Freshman Class Dean, and Dean of Students. Nancy joined SFDS in 2000 and continues to participate in all aspects of teacher mentoring, curriculum development, and helping parents weather their children's entry into adolescence.

Sue Collentine
Lower School Head
Following study in English at California State University-San Francisco, Sue earned her baccalaureate degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from California State University–Chico. This was followed by a graduate program in education at the University of New Hampshire where she was named to the Dean’s List for Excellence. A plethora of pedagogical studies have since followed: seminars, CAIS workshops, etc.
Sue has taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District and at St. Paul’s School in Oakland. In 1989, Sue joined the San Francisco Day School faculty. Prior to becoming Lower School Head, she worked across the entire school: a grade four teacher, a fifth grade teacher, an eighth grade English teacher and the leader of the Associate Teacher Program. Sue has served on many committees at SFDS, including the education committee, curriculum committees, and is currently co-chair of the Academic Excellence task force.
As Lower School Head, Sue brings a wealth of experience, a strong interest in teaching and in supporting the teaching profession, and a great love of children and schools.
Terry Gumz
Director of Development
As of July 1, 2009 San Francisco Day School welcomes Terry Gumz as our new Director of Development. For the previous 8 years, Terry was Director of Advancement at Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT (895 boys in grades PK-12), where she successfully oversaw three capital campaigns for both building and endowment, as well as annual giving, senior funds, communications, and a centennial celebration. During her tenure at Brunswick, Terry and her team raised nearly $120 million.
Terry began her career in Development in 1996 at Chapin School in NY (700 girls in grades K-12), first as Director of Alumnae Affairs, and was then promoted to Director of Development in 1997. Terry ran her first capital campaign while at Chapin - $25 million for building and endowment - in addition to annual and senior funds, planning the school's centennial celebration, overseeing communications and development of the school's first website.
Terry's involvement as a parent volunteer at Rippowam-Cisqua School in Bedford, NY led to her interest in development work and her change in careers. Terry's previous experience was in marketing - corporate event marketing for clients such as JP Morgan Chase; marketing for investment banking at Kidder, Peabody; and sales management at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company.
Carolyn Sasser
Business Manager
Carolyn holds a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana University. She began her career in public accounting with KPMG during which time she obtained her Certified Public Accountant certificate. She then spent 16 years with Rosenberg Real Estate Equity Funds (RREEF), a firm that invests large pension funds in commercial real estate. As Vice-President of Client Reporting, she was responsible for reporting investment performance to clients. Carolyn left the corporate world and began her career in the non-profit sector at Children’s Day School. She served as Business Manager for Children’s Day School for two years prior to arriving at San Francisco Day School in December 1999. As Business Manager she is responsible for all financial aspects of the school’s operations and investments, administering personnel items and risk management. In addition she oversees facilities management, including maintenance of the property and safety/security.

Linda Talton
Director of Admission
Linda received a B.S. in Human Development at Howard University. Her coursework in child development and work with the Howard University Laboratory School sparked her interest in school administration. Upon graduation, she was awarded an academic fellowship from Howard University’s School of Education and received a M.Ed. During graduate school, Linda interned with the Head of School at St. Anselm’s Abbey, an all boys independent school in Washington, D.C., before going on to teach first grade at a charter school. Drawing on her valuable experience as an intern, Linda was eager to return to independent schools and began her tenure as a kindergarten teacher and Director of the Afterschool Program at Cathedral School in New York City. Upon moving to San Francisco, Linda served as Director of Admission and Placement at Live Oak School prior to coming to the Day School, where she is now the Director of Admission.
